Title: Utilizing ArcGIS Field Maps for Field Operations: Taking advantage of mobile phone apps.

Released by Esri in 2020, the California Water Science Center Estuarine Hydrodynamics and sediment transport group has been utilizing the ArcGIS Field Map mobile app since 2022. The main purpose of utilizing ArcGIS Field Map is to assist the hydrologic technicians (hydro techs) of the Estuarine Hydrodynamics and sediment transport group in the field. Hydro techs must work with numerous information in the field and must have this information readily available. By incorporating this mobile phone app, hydro techs have greater flexibility and efficiency in a field operation. Hydro techs can easily find their station in relation to their current location, measure distances such as riverbanks, locate exact location of a standard cross sections, access various GIS layers within the app for general information about the station, nearest marina/boat launches, river names and much more. In addition, the robust offline capabilities of ArcGIS Field Map are effective in the field where Wi-Fi-internet coverage may be scarce, and the mobile phone app can be easily used by anyone who has no background in GIS. Estuarine Hydrodynamics and sediment transport group has also began using the ArcGIS Field Map as a learning tool to help support new hires to the group.
